Blurbs

A sui generis Urban Fantasy/Historical/Crime crossover novel, in which pixies, demons, dragons, and vampires are real — though few humans know that… Narrated by a wisecracking immortal that’s worldly, noir, skeptical without bleak cynicism, and open to surprises; he’s half Gilgamesh and half Raymond Chandler. I couldn’t put it down!

Jonathan Vos Post, professor of physics and astronomy;

co-author with Ray Bradbury & Richard Feynman;

semifinalist for 1996 Nebula Award

In creating the ageless Adam, Gene Doucette has conjured up a character as witty as he is old, and as charming as he is depraved. IMMORTAL is by turns thrilling, moving, and deeply, darkly funny.

–Eric Garcia, author of Repo Men, Matchstick Men

and the Anonymous Rex series

Imagine if you will two editors sitting at a bar in New York, trying to think up the next huge blockbuster.  What they might come up with is to somehow combine Chuck Palahniuk with Phillip K. Dick with a little Charlie Huston sprinkled on top. The mega-ambitious story they’d concoct would be none other than a man who has lived forever.  And then, just when they’re about to settle up their bar tab, they’d agree on calling this new author, Gene Doucette.

Vincent Zandri, author of the best-selling thrillers,

The Remains and The Innocent

[F]orget the genre. Here’s a description I like: Immortal is like Men in Black meets The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy meets Odd Thomas. Yes, really.

Spencer Seidel, author of Dead of Wynter

Reviews

Part science fiction fantasy, part action adventure and thriller, Gene Doucette creates the perfect balance of humor and edge-of-your-seat anticipation in this genre-defying story of an immortal man named Adam, who finds himself battling demons and bounty hunters in his eternal search for Eve, the red haired mystery woman of his dreams. Witty and wonderful, with a bite of sarcasm, Immortal is a five star read for any fiction lover…  (Click here for full review)

The world of fantasy has been growing steadily popular over the past decade from stories about witches and wizards to the lives of an obscene amount of vampires. Readers have been thirsting for the next great book and after sifting through practically every book on my reading list and becoming thoroughly depressed, I have finally found the story to take me out of my doldrums… (click here for full review)

Immortal… moves clearly and easily between the present, the past and the distant past. Recollections are vivid and seem as though they could in fact be the recounting actual historical events. The character has lived through some interesting times and events and his retelling of these stories, via memories, is lively and interesting...  (click here or here for full review)

By the end of the first chapter I was fairly convinced that Gene Doucette had found this manuscript between seats on the subway because it had clearly been written as a collaboration by some of my favorite authors while they were sharing a bottle of whiskey… (click here for full review)

Immortal by Gene Doucette is first of all a very fun read. Adam’s telling of his story is a wonderful blend of the serious and funny. This is what good science fiction should be, believable yet fantastic….(click here for full review)

Immortal’s fast-paced plot and collection of interesting and surprising characters will have you turning pages. It’s a hard book to put down and one of those books that make you wish the story was real…(click here for full review)

There are also, interestingly, problems that are once removed from Adam’s ageless existence. Because he is a wanderer who outlives anyone he meets, he is lonely. But because he’s lonely, he also drinks far too much, sometimes spending entire decades in a booze-filled haze. This problem is particular to the way Adam handles his loneliness, another character might fall into sexual depravity, or ascetic withdrawal from the world, or just about anything else. All of these qualities together make Doucette’s Adam a man who is impossibly old, but still obviously and deliberately a man… (click here for full review)

      It’s allowed. Although this is just a web page I put up this morning. I’m looking at a copy of the book, and your blurb is on the inside jacket. So, you know, that’s cool too.

        Are you serious? My blurb made it onto the inside cover?

        What would it take to get a personally signed copy of that puppy sent my way? (wink wink, flirt flirt)

    I have to say that I absolutely love Immortal. The writing is excellent, the story engaging, and the characters intriguing.

    Excuse me… I’d like another serving of Adam, please. As soon as possible.
