New cover draft: opinions needed
A redesign
A new cover of Immortal is in the works! Why? Because for whatever reason, interested persons– meaning distributors– have said the existing cover doesn’t “pop”. What does this mean? I have no idea. But now we’re looking into a design that will be more eye-catching, and we need your help.
Below is a draft of the new cover. It may work, it may not. It could require tweaking, or it may have to be scrapped entirely. I don’t know. And neither does the designer. We’ve been going back and forth on it for a couple of weeks now and we’re both entirely too biased to see it with fresh eyes.
But you have fresh eyes, don’t you? You do; I can see them from here. So: keeping in mind this is a draft, which means the final may look glossier, may have more articulated details, and so on, please offer your opinion on it in the comments below. Ideas for improvements are also greatly appreciated.
Okay, the first one wasn’t perfect, but I don’t “get” this one…
I’d do IMMORTAL amidst some cave drawings fading into gradually more contemporary script or something …
Given that Immortal is a humorous book, have you given any thought to a more whimsical look? This cover, while a really cool graphic, makes me think the content of the book would be quite serious.
I’m with WotV: I don’t “get” this cover at all. Stick figure on left looks like a variant of the Grim Reaper with a bright yellow necktie. Not the image I would conjure for immortality. If, indeed, that’s what it is supposed to be.
Well.. obviously any cover that I have to explain has not succeeded in the way one would hope for it to.
The stick figure: we cribbed a drawing of a man from the cave art at Lascaux. it’s the full version of the head shot Adam has been using in social networks for the past couple of years. It turns out there are no cave art renderings of people that look recognizably as such.
Whimsy: the tie on the cave art was meant to be whimsical. Sigh…

That’s what I’m talking about!
See, I think that’s almost TOO flippant.
How about a close-up of the cave art figure, in context (on a cave wall) but wearing a tie?
[…] There is a new review of Immortal in the world today, over at Tracey Baptiste‘s site, Knitting With Pencils. Tracey loved the book and seems to be throwing her hat into the cover art ring as well. […]
