SAPPHIRE BLUE Cover

Cover design process

The act of designing a cover for a novel is, from my side of things, pretty uncomplicated.  The publisher has people who do these things, I just have to give them an idea of what I’m looking for and help find images of the elements needed to assemble the whole thing.

The cover for Sapphire Blue is below.  It is the result of a few weeks of my going back and forth with the designer, Megan Dooley, with notes and suggestions and alterations and so on.

Mara Cantor’s life was boring and uncomplicated, and she liked it that way. She had her internship at the museum, a job she shared with her roommate Davis, and while it was low-paying and occasionally mind-numbing, it gave her all the free time she needed to finish her thesis.  And that was just fine.

But then Argent Leeds, the internationally famous playboy and raconteur, visited Mara’s museum, and with him the most exciting archeological discovery in decades: the Pazuzu gemstones. Long assumed to be nothing more than a myth by most scholars, the gemstones were rumored to possess mystical powers.

Between Argent, his gemstones, and Davis, Mara’s boring life has suddenly gotten very complicated.  Now she is caught up in a sexual adventure that is either the most exciting time of her life . . . or the most terrifying.
