Your Questions Answered
How did we get here?
Here’s what happened: way back in May of 2024, I had just finished my first draft of The Wisdom of Sand (arriving in April!) and needed something for my perpetually under-stimulated brain to work on. Stewing in said brain at the same time was the following: the “enshittification” writings of Cory Doctorow; the Murderbot Diaries; my own thoughts on AI (decently expressed in Get Hyped!); and the TV series Shogun.
Those added up to a story (don’t ask me how, I don’t know either) which I started writing immediately.
But, this is not a novel
It is not! It’s a novella. I got about 1/4 of the way through the book and decided it made more sense as a novella series, so I went back to the beginning and wrote the first book in that series, based on the first chapter of the unfinished novel. That became The Wrong Side of Sundown.
So there are more books coming?
Indeed. The second book is called Last Contact, and I’ll roll that out later this year. Book three is theoretical at the moment, but we’ll get there.
Why are you doing this to me when all I want is more Tandemstar books?
I can do both! I swear!
What about audio?
It’ll be a longer wait for audio than usual. My original plan for this novella series was to get some interest from a traditional publisher, but it turns out my desire to do so does not override my impatience with the trad pub industry. I made the abrupt decision to just do this myself at the end of last year, which meant dropping this on my preferred narrator for this project (Steve Carlson) on short notice. He’s tied up right now, but will be free to work on it shortly.
I think that about covers it. Happy reading!
